Beyond Department Store Uniformity

For two days only, The Tailory New York transforms the Pendry Hotel into a bespoke atelier where custom womens suits meet architectural dresses, where unique mens suits share space with hand-draped jumpsuits. This represents the kind of reset that moved fashion past mall kiosk sameness toward intentional design and custom precision.

Bespoke Tailoring Chicago — For Everything You Actually Want to Wear

The sophisticated client searching "custom suits near me" understands that luxury custom clothing extends far beyond traditional suiting categories. Whether commissioning womens wedding suits that transcend rental tuxedo limitations, designing the blazer that exists nowhere else, or creating custom pieces that department stores never imagined—this trunk show addresses clients who recognize that made to measure suits Illinois represents just the beginning of what bespoke craftsmanship can achieve.

What Awaits Your Custom Garment Consultation:

Private Design Sessions Meet one-on-one with our expert team for collaborative design where your vision drives technical execution. OUR MISSION

ETHOS: SUITING AND THE SELF

The Tailory New York is an appointment-only, women-owned and operated bespoke clothing company that combines modern fashion design with the heritage art of custom tailoring. We stand firmly in the belief and knowledge that suiting is genderless and caters in equal measure to men, women, and non-binary individuals.

Custom suiting either fulfills or subverts societal expectations by communicating a self-determined personal image to the world around us. We wield the power of fashion design to meet the singular needs of each of our clients, particularly those in the LGBTQIA+ community, which sets us apart from other custom clothiers.

DESIGN INNOVATION AND INCLUSIVE TAILORING

The Tailory New York’s clients are bold, ambitious, and accomplished. We create meticulously tailored pieces that incorporate each individual’s unique preferences and lifestyle. This serves as an instrument for self-affirmation and self-empowerment.

VALUE PROPOSITION

We are also firm proponents of the modular wardrobe philosophy, where each of the custom pieces we design with our clients can be mixed and matched to create fresh new looks without buying additional items to supplement their wardrobe. We save our clients time thinking about what to wear in the morning, and they always look impossibly stylish.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITY

The Tailory New York was founded by Parsons graduate Shao Yang in October 2013. Yang’s keen sense of fashion, coupled with her unparalleled tech and design skills, allows her to create looks for both men, women, and nonbinary individuals. Since the Tailory opened its doors in New York, it has become a mecca for the LGBTQIA+ community.

OUR CONCEPT

"While at Parsons, I was drawn to the precision and global history of bespoke tailoring - an art that's now accessible to everyone regardless of gender, race, or economics. The Tailory New York has become one of the world's most sought after ateliers, particularly for the LGBTQIA+ community. Bespoke is like flying private versus coach: our clients participate in the design process, selecting fabrics and discussing features they want to highlight. Superior fabrics and keen design details provide newfound confidence, creating forever heritage pieces. We look forward to welcoming you."

OUR PROCESS

Our studio is, first and foremost, a safe space. We prioritize individual, one-on-one consultations with each client to create an intimate and comfortable experience. Our mission is to make everyone feel at home with us—creating an environment where they can be vulnerable yet completely safe. We recognize that exploring gender identity and personal style requires a judgment-free zone, and we've carefully cultivated our space to provide exactly that. For clients who may feel anxious about in-person visits or for those not based in New York, we've expanded our virtual appointment offerings. These remote options allow clients to experience our services while remaining in the comfort and security of their own homes.

Whether someone is a local New Yorker or visiting from across the globe, our approach remains the same: providing a respectful, affirming space where each person's unique style journey is honored and supported without presumption or bias. The relationship between tailor and client is built on trust, and we take that responsibility seriously regardless of where our clients call home.

Creating custom clothing can be daunting for first-timers, but we make the process seamless. It starts with choosing a fabric from our hand-picked selection. We'll guide you in choosing every design detail, from jacket lining and buttons to monograms, lapels, and pocket styles.

Next, we take over 45+ measurements, including body dimensions, finished garment measurements for silhouette and fit, and posture evaluation to best flatter the wearer. Your suit will arrive in 8 to 10 weeks, depending on the fabric's provenance. We'll conduct a fitting and make any necessary alterations to ensure an optimal fit. Our in-house tailors can complete alterations in as little as two days, and then you'll be ready to start rocking your brand new bespoke clothing.
